In 1996, Asian Spirit
Airlines opened the gateway to the word’s famous
Boracay Island Philippines when it started its regular air services to
Caticlan Airport on
Panay Island, utilizing its 47-seatre De Havilland Dash of Canada.
Thereafter, the attempt to operate further to secondary and feeder airports gained positive acceptance to both local foreign travelers.
Asian Spirit’s distribution network drastically expanded as it opened major hubs to bridge small and “sleepy” yet tourists-potential destinations as it flies
to airports not serviced by other national carriers. These destinations
are more popularly known in the industry as ”missionary routes” or the ‘unprofitable sectors”. Today these so –called “unprofitable routes” have progressed and continue to register dramatic increases in commuter passengers. It can be said that Asian Spirit remains to be the only scheduled domestic carrier with operations concentrated on these missionary routes.
In January 2003, the
Asian Spirit Airlines finally received its congressional franchise making it the country’s fourth flag carrier, enabling it to expand its services both in the domestic and international regions as well as to receive incentives form the government to various destinations in the
Philippines Archipelago.
Today, Asian Spirit Airlines operates a fleet of 14 consisting of 40
seated CN235’s, 50 – seated De Havilland dash7’s of Canada, 19-seater LET 410’s, 60-
seated YS-11s, seated British Aerospace Advanced Turbo Prop (ATP), and the latest member of its fleet the 83-seater British Aerospace 146 Jet from British Aerospace Systems of UK.
Over the next five years, Asian Spirit plans to consolidate and further expand its domestic
Philippines network operations to airports no other carrier intend to operate. By operating feeder routes and supporting other carriers operating the trunk line routes, increasing capacity and flight frequencies to airports it now operates form and by initiating alliances and co-marketing efforts with bigger domestic carriers.
Asian Spirit Airlines aims to avoid unnecessary and stiff market competition.
Asian Spirit Airlines still serves
Boracay with the most number of frequencies reaching up to 16 times a day and is looking at increasing it further to 18 times a day during the high season.
Asian Spirit Flights frequency increases are already being catered with respect to other Asian Spirit destinations.
